What Is Pickleball?
Pickleball is played on a court roughly one-third the size of a tennis court. It’s usually a doubles game (though singles is also an option) and uses solid paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over a net. The result? A game that’s easy to learn, quick to play, and seriously fun.
The Basics: Rules, Scoring & Court Layout
The Court
A pickleball court is 20’ wide and 44’ long. It’s divided by a 36-inch net in the center, with service areas and a 7-foot non-volley zone (aka the “kitchen”) on either side of the net.
Scoring

Games are typically played to 11 points.

You must win by 2.

Points can only be scored by the serving team.

The server must serve diagonally and keep both feet behind the baseline.

The ball must bounce once on each side before volleys are allowed (known as the double bounce rule).
How to Play

Serve underhand from behind the baseline.

The ball must land in the diagonal service box.

After the two-bounce rule, players can volley or play groundstrokes.

Stay out of the kitchen on volleys—it’s a no-volley zone!
